Aspartic Acid (L-Aspartic Acid, L-Aspartate, Asp)

This is an amino acid that promotes uptake of trace elements and is intricately involved with the energy cycle of the body, linking two of the body's most important biochemical pathways, the Urea cycle (the foundation of nitrogen metabolism) and the Krebs Cycle (the body's pathways for metabolism of carbohydrate). Aspartic acid in its "L-" form, L-Aspartic acid, is a major excitatory transmitter in the Human brain, and is the precursor of acetylaspartic acid, the most highly concentrated amino acid neurotransmitter in the brain. Aspartic acid, as well, is involved in the building of DNA and orotates. Aspartic acid and Phenylalanine are the amino acids which make up Aspartame, the new artificially derived "amino acid," which is now used commonly as a sweetener.

B-12 (Vitamin B12, Vit.B12, Cyanocobalamin, Vitamin

This is a vitamin which is thought to act as a coenzyme for normal DNA synthesis while helping to maintain the integrity of the genome of the individual. It is also known to aid the body in the promotion of general growth, cellular development, the release of energy from body stores, blood cell count and normal functioning of the nervous system, and related tissues. Vitamin B-12 is also thought necessary for healthy skin, hair and nails. Results of a recent meta-analysis in Oxford, England at the Radcliffe Infirmary demonstrated that Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid (and to lesser extend by Vitamin B6, whose presence is necessary to convert homocysteine to the amino acid L-cysteine) were necessary vitamins involved in the body's cleansing process called methylation, wherein dangerous homocysteine levels are reduced. Lowering homocysteine levels has been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, for as much as 30%-40%. Dosages of Vitamin B12 can be increased up to 1 mg for these purposes. Bee Pollen Powder

Bee Pollen has for many years been thought to be the purest form of whole food found upon the planet. Its nutritional characteristics are finely balanced by nature to provide the most uniquely balanced singular food source known to man. Historically, Bee Pollen was that which was thought to be provided by God to the children of Israel while sojourning their forty years in the wilderness. In fact, the Hebrew translation for manna, or bread from heaven, can also be translated as Bee Pollen! This food source is high in amino acids, select vitamins, minerals and important peptides that the body soaks up like a sponge. It is thought to provide stamina and energy for the sports enthusiast as well as provide a "jolt" for the mind for those of us under a great deal of stress and pressure.  High Desert Bee Pollen (Bee Pollen):  Thought to be the same "manna" miraculously provided to the children of Israel in their 40 year sojourn in the deserts of Saudi Arabia, bee pollen is perhaps the world's most perfectly balanced food fit for human consumption. Its balanced arrays of naturally amino acids and peptides are unparalleled by any other food; its closest rival is that of the white of eggs/albumin. Pollen contains 15% lecithin by volume, fatty acids (2.8 g per ounce) many minerals and trace elements (0.5 g per ounce), most of all the vitamins (3 mg per ounce), enzymes (67 units per ounce) and cofactors, carbohydrates (5 g per ounce), fiber (1 g per ounce), reducing sugars (8 g per pounce), proteins, peptides and all essential amino acids (total protein is 20% by volume or 7.1 grams per ounce), and other active substances that have yet been isolated or identified. It appears to a rejuvenating compound which has a profound biological effect, preventing premature aging of the cells and stimulating new growth of skin tissue as well. Interestingly, most of those recorded to have lived in excess of 125 years claimed that the majority of their diet was bee pollen and honey. High Desert Bee Pollen is a registered trademark by High Desert Honeybee Pollen Products, Scottsdale Arizona. This is the only Bee Pollen which Vxa uses in its products.

Bladderwrack Extract, Fucus vesiculo

By virtue of its high iodine content (0.02-0.1% -more than half is organically bound to proteins or amino acids), This herb-food of the sea (seaweed) is thought to stimulate the thyroid gland, thus increasing basal metabolism. It appears to assist the problem of lipid balance associated with obesity. Bladderwrack contains relatively high amounts of minerals as well as a number of polysaccharides of several types, and Polyphenols. Besides being anti-obesic, and thus an excellent and prudent component of weight loss formulas, it has therapeutic qualities of being thyroactive, antirheumatic and demulcent. Also used historically for arteriosclerosis and digestive disorders. Also, Bladderwrack has important intestinal and cardiovascular cleansing qualities because it contains fucodin and bromine iodine occurring naturally in its chemical structure. Topically applied, it is an effective agent against skin irruptions, scaling, dry flaking, and aids in cleansing the pores. Also used as a Homeopathic or used simply as a micro-nutritional (botanical). (Homeopathic potencies accredit their strength and efficacy to the electromagnetic signatures of the original substrate; these are scientifically created dilutions and succussions of medicines such that generally not even a molecule of the original substrate or medicine is present in the medicine). As a Homeopathic or used simply as a micro-nutritional, it has demonstrated effectiveness against the following symptomology: "This remedy is highly spoken of in the reduction of obesity." (Blackwood) -"A remedy for obesity and nontoxic goitre...Digestion is furthered and flatulence diminished. Obstinate constipation; thyroid enlargement in obese subjects." (Boericke). "A remedy for obesity and nontoxic goitre...thyroid enlargement in obese subjects. Digestion is furthered, flatulence diminished" (Boericke).

C (Vitamin C, Vit C, L-Ascorbic Acid, Ascorbic Aci

Biotin (vitamin cofactor) This is a vitamin cofactor which facilitates the metabolism of amino acids and carbohydrates. It is thought to aid the body in promoting the normal health of sweat glands, nerve tissue, bone marrow, male genitalia and red blood cells. Like most B vitamins and related cofactors, Biotin also is thought to aid in the slowing of premature hair loss (it cannot restore hair), premature wrinkling, and scaly skin rash.Recent research of Biotin has demonstrated that deficiency of Biotin has been one of the causes of various skin problems in infants and various forms of skin irritations in adults. Its deficiency may be linked to the reasons of the occurrence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), but it remains unproven

Ascorbic acid, Mol Wt. 176, related chemically to sugars, is a well known vitamin that is thought to be essential for the maintenance of connective tissues. Without ascorbic acid, the structure of the connective tissue becomes weakened, the linings of blood vessels, as well as the sheath of connective tissue about them, become weakened so that bleeding occurs. It is involved in the hydroxylation of proline to hydroxyproline, an important step in the synthesis of collagen, healthy bones and cartilage. Thus, it is integral to the promotion of healthy eyes, gums and teeth, critically essential in the healing and repair of wounds and damaged cells. It is also involved in the hydroxylation of tryptophan to 5-HTP, the immediate precursor to serotonin, and the conversion of 3,4-dihdrooxyphenylethylamine to norepinephrine, and the hydroxylation of p-hydroxyphenylpyruvate to homogentisic acid in the catabolic pathway of tyrosine. Vitamin C and its esters have been shown to lower cholesterol levels in atherosclerotic patients, and is involved in the formation of hemoglobin, the absorption of iron from the body. Tissues which have the highest rate of metabolic activity also have the highest amounts of vitamin C. Useful in complementing the body's immune system in times of stress and illness as well as necessary in maintaining optimum health.Vitamin C, when used in conjunction with bioflavonoids, is thought to help in the reduction of the formation of "age-spots." Vitamin C may aid the body in stopping the skin's pigment from prematurely clumping and being acted upon by the sun's ultraviolet rays, circumventing the possibility of the clumps from being turned into age-spots. Vitamin C is thought to aid the body, strengthen capillaries and avoid easy bruising, and the formation of those tiny hemorrhages of capillaries that become spider veins. As a cofactor, Vitamin C also helps the oil-secreting glands function properly, keeping the skin from drying out. Further, this vitamin may also be helpful in keeping hair from getting tangled, matted, snarled and broken. There are 6 stable esters of vitamin C, all of which prove useful in the body. These include: Vitamin C1-Ascorbic Acid, VItamin C2-Dehyroascorbic Acid, Vitamin C3-Ascorbyl Palmitate, VItamin C4-Calcium Ascorbate, Vitamin C5-Isoascorbic Acid, Vitamin C6-Calcium Isoascorbate, and lastly, Ascorbign, or provitamin C (the direct precursor of ascorbic acid) is also useful and appears to potentiate, if not accelerate, vitamin C activity.

Chromium (ChromeMate GTF, Chromium polynicotinate)

This is a very important mineral which works with vitamin B3 (niacinamide) in maintaining blood sugar levels. It is a true Glucose Tolerance Factor and has recently been given a US Patent because of this singular nutritional importance, plus two more because of its ability to lower cholesterol.Only one such Chromium product actually satisfies all of Dr. Mertz's laws to be established as a true GTF, and ChromeMate is that Chromium source. In such form, chromium is known to activate enzymes for carbohydrates, fat, and protein metabolism. Chromium is also thought to aid the body in improving its circulation for healthy skin and hair.

Ephedra sinica (Ma Huang)

This Chinese herb is perhaps one of the better known to the western world for its properties of instilling a sense of well being to its user. As an herbal tea, Ephedra has been used as a health tonic in the Orient for centuries, as well as a natural stimulant with short term and temporary appetite suppressing effects. But its major significance to weight-watchers is in its believed thermogenic effects, i.e., the way in which the body burns fat and makes heat through caloric "burn." More specifically, the deposits of brown adipose tissue or brown fat cells [brown fat cells = good fat cells] can burn their weight in white fat [white fat cells = bad fat cells] every 12 hours, if nutritively "turned-on" to do so! This herb is touted as being nutritionally capable of helping the body to do this!Ephedra contains the precursor to the drug-like substance, ephedrine, a natural stimulant, which acts to increase the body's metabolism and accelerates caloric burn through the slight rising of body heat. By itself, ephedra's stimulating effects are milder than caffeine, but as a fat-burner, it is much more powerful. And interestingly enough, the effects of Ephedra appear to increase over time. Less and less is needed to instruct the body to burn more and more fat! This herb is thought to have been effective in breaking the so-called "fat set-point" for those experiencing weight plateaus, because it continues to increase thermogenesis the more one uses it! Ephedra has been found to be useful in complementing the body's natural procedures of dissolving and mobilizing fats in the bloodstream, making them available for energy use. Some helpful caution should be used by those who are currently on prescribed drugs such as antidepressants (MAO inhibitors), or medication for diabetics, pregnant and lactating women, angle-closure glaucoma victims and prescriptions for thyroid disease. Those taking any of these should consult their Doctor before self-administering.

Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo Biloba Extract, Ginkgoaceae

Although this is a common tree in Asia, and now used ornamentally in American suburbs, it was not known in the West until the 17th century. The secret of its believed powers lies in its leaves, as was first discovered by the Chinese some 5,000 years ago and later confirmed by western science. Quite interestingly is the fact that the Ginkgo Biloba tree is the longest surviving tree on earth, its genus being over 200 million years old, and an individual tree may live to be 1000 years old. Towering over 100 feet in the air and having a diameter of 4 feet, many have called this magisterial tree the "tree of life."Historically, it is known to reduce feverish body warmth, provide brain nutrients which possibly aid in memory processing and mental clarity while preserving function in the elderly, possibly because of its powerful antioxidant activity, and providing resistance against deterioration by increasing nutritional supplies to the important energy centers within the body. It is said to have particular properties which may help and complement the body's natural ability to strengthen the cardiovascular system, neutralize free radical damage, aid in the elimination of toxins and wastes, and prevent water retention in delicate tissue areas, reduce common annoyances associated with breathing while protecting the delicate areas within our bodies that help us take up oxygen, while promoting the oxygenation of the cells as well. This herb/tree is now the most popular in all of China and Europe.Science has finally discovered why the Ginkgo Biloba tree has been so useful throughout the ages. It's been found that the tree actually produces a series of natural flavonoids which may aid in the body's ability to heal itself and decrease unwanted disruption. Also included within the components of Ginkgo are isorhamnetin, proanthocyanidins (powerful antioxidants), terpenes, carotenoids and superoxide dismutase (SOD, yet another powerful antioxidant), increasing its cerebro-protective effects and the efficiencies of brain energy metabolism while elevating pyruvate and lowering lactate concentrations. Ginkgo also exhibits remarkable neurotransmitter modulating activity, and can therefore be effective in counteracting aging of the brain and may even be useful for preventing and treating senility, Alzheimer's/dementia, depression, memory loss, tinnitus, arterial insufficiency in the limbs, all of which grow more threatening every day we age.The Ginkgo tree quite amazingly produces rare substances called Ginkgolides, substances which science has discovered prevent the inappropriate clotting of blood. Ginkgolides interfere with the ability of the blood platelets to prematurely start the clotting process known as the platelet activating factor, or PAT for short. It is this same clotting factor that is known to be one of the components which prematurely and wrongly triggers allergic inflammation and toxic shock in immune dysfunction. Ginkgolides also are thought to aid the body's inhibition of the defense system. The Ginkgolides are reportedly known to inhibit this reaction effectively, as was reported in the prestigious British medical journal, The Lancet, 1987. Lastly, Ginkgo extracts have demonstrated usefulness in the treatment of male arterial erectile dysfunction, directly causing sure increases in flow of blood in both arteries and veins, without any threatening change in blood pressure. After 6 months of treatment, 95% demonstrated improvement, 50% tested regained potency. Also used as a Homeopathic or used simply as a micro-nutritional for hypertension and problems with blood circulation. (Homeopathic potencies accredit their strengt

Glutamic Acid (L-Glutamic Acid)

Under certain conditions, L-Glutamic acid is an essential amino acid. Glutamic acid along with Glutamine, are the dominant amino acids of the cerebrospinal fluid and serum. Known as one of the notorious three musketeers in brain neurochemistry, Glutamic acid is a uniquely powerful brain food, an excitatory neurotransmitter which paradoxically can give rise to GABA, an inhibitory and balancing neurotransmitter within the brain. Glutamic acid is found in concentration within the hippocampus (the memory centers of the brain), in cranial nerves as well as other areas of information transfer to effect motor response. This amino acid is essential for the production of other nonessential amino acids, a process called "transamination."

Glutamine (L-Glutamine)

Under certain conditions, L-Glutamine is an essential amino acid. Useful in maintaining the body's nitrogen balance, it is also thought to be a necessary constituent of the Glucose Tolerance Factor which aids in the regulation of insulin production. Glutamine has been thought by some to be a protective agent for the body against the ravages of alcohol, at times decreasing the desire for it, as well as sugar.Glutamine, an amino acid belonging to the population of brain nutri-chemicals called the three musketeers, participates in the production of DNA chromosomal activity and production. Glutamine is primarily an energy source, and a primary energy food for the brain, as well as a mediator of both glutamic acid and GABA activity.
